MOVERS IN CALIFORNIA

movers in californiaHiring a professional that can do the job right is a difficult task in normal circumstances. Imagine the stress that exists when you need to hire movers in California for your “once in a lifetime move.” If you choose the wrong movers in California, your whole moving experience can be negatively affected. That’s why I put together some recommendations when searching for that perfect mover in California.

ASK TO SEE THE RIGHT DOCUMENTS
Before you even waste your time interviewing some of the movers in your area, ask to see copies of some of these more crucial documents:
• Proof of worker’s compensation policy - Note the limit of liability - if it’s too small of an amount, move on to the next company. Even a policy that covers up to $500,000 may not be enough if more than two movers will be working on the job. Speaking from experience, I can tell you that medical bills from just one on-the-job injury can easily amount to over $100,000.
• Copy of the general insurance policy - The policy should note what it covers (i.e. theft and damage) and the total amount of coverage. Make sure to read the fine print - you don’t want any surprises later on.
Once you’re satisfied with the insurance policies and have interviewed the different movers in California (see our list of questions below), make sure that you get a written estimate from each and every company. That estimate should include the exact job responsibilities of the movers (i.e. pack only breakables, placing all boxes in the appropriate rooms in the new residence). The accessibility conditions for both properties should also be noted on the estimate. That way the movers can’t demand more money by claiming that they were unaware of certain access issues (i.e. no elevator, narrow front door).

INTERVIEWING THE MOVERS IN CALIFORNIA
Properly interviewing the candidates can save you a lot of headaches down the line. Here are some standard questions that you can ask.
• How long have you been in business?
• Do you use the same team of movers, or does it change all the time?
• Can you provide me with three references?
• Does your written estimate ever change for any reason?
• Do you provide boxes for free (if so, what type)?
• Do you guarantee a start and finish time?
