Ever since I can remember, I was fascinated with large trucks and boxes. I must have owned a dozen Tonka trucks when I was growing up, each one bigger then the next. Packing was my other obsession, whether it was packing or unpacking my life-long possessions. Forward about 20 years or so and my boyhood obsession becomes reality – I become a professional mover. Since that time (more than 30 years ago), I’ve worked in almost all capacities (trainee to a regional supervisor) and in all divisions (residential, commercial, and international). Only recently have I decided to retire from the moving industry; not because I was tired of moving, but because of my back pain. My forced retirement is only a physical retirement however – I refuse to give up my love of moving. That’s why I’ve started this moving blog to offer general moving advice and suggestions to the public, as well to provide a general knowledge of the moving industry.

To give you a better idea of my credentials, I’ve listed some of my work experience throughout the years.
Trainee and mover – Trained with one of the biggest moving companies in California during the 1970’s and went on to be one of the top movers in the Industry. Received continuing education and became certified as a Certified Professional Mover (CPM) and routinely passed some of the most rigorous driving standards in the industry. Responsible for residential moves on both the intrastate and interstate level.

Lead mover and driver –Worked for one of the biggest national movers in the country during the 1980’s and early 1990’s. Specialized in corporate moves and residential cross-country moves. Led a team of movers and trained new hires on all facets of the moving industry (i.e. customer service, packing techniques, driving skills). Received countless rewards for top customer service.

Regional supervisor – Supervised a region in California for a mid-sized, top-rated moving company. Responsible for the overseeing of hundreds of moves during the mid to late 1990’s until mid-2008, and occasionally worked in the field as a team supervisor for those VIP clients. Specialized in intrastate moves as well as international moves originating from the Pacific. Wrote and edited moving tips and suggestions that won national recognition awards in the moving industry.
